Some common questions asked

Below is a selection of the most common questions we’re asked. Simply click on the questions to expand the panels and view the answers.

I do not live in the UK but want to study in English, is this possible?

You do not need to be in the UK to study our Clinical Essential Oil Practitioner course, our course materials are all accessible virtually, and our learning is live and interactive, so you will need an internet connection (not all the time) to access the online learning platform. You will be invited in-house for one blending weekend but can join us live and virtually if travel is restricted.

The tutor will guide you through your learning and organise your lessons. Our massage module needs to be learned in-house; a visit to our school base is necessary, but don’t hesitate to contact us to discuss your requirements.

Can I use my own essential oils?

Yes, if you have a wide variety of oils, you can use these; however, if you need to buy essential oils, carrier oils or other base products, you will have access to a range of essential oil suppliers that we have to organise a school discount with so you can build relationships with lots of different suppliers.

We can supply our students with an essential oil kit for the first module, details of which can be found here: The Well School Shop

How long do I have to complete the course?

To gain IFPA accreditation, you need to complete the course within 18 months of your start date. If circumstances beyond your control dictate that you need more time, an extension application can be made to the school office.

How long does it take to complete the diploma?

If you study around 6 hours a week, you should complete the course in 12-18 months. You can study at your own pace at a time that’s convenient for you, however, the modules will be accessible for a six month period, although you can apply for an extension.

If I need to take a break from studying, will it be possible continue at a later date?

You can apply to the school office for an extension if your exam date is no longer than three years from the start date.

I already hold a massage qualification, or I do not want to learn massage, do I need to re-do the massage module?

Our ‘Clinical Essential Oil Practirioner’ diploma will be perfect for you. If you are already a complementary therapist, you can add aromatherapy to your range of treatments by taking this course.

Will I hold a Clinical Aromatherapist qualification?

Once all modules have been completed along with all paperwork, case studies and portfolios, you can call yourself a Clinical Aromatherapist regardless of which diploma you register for.

How do I take exams?

You will sit on a timed multiple-choice question paper with essay questions. You will need to submit your case study portfolio, complete all aspects of the course work, and send it to us for marking. All practical elements of the diploma course will include an in-house exam set at the end of your massage module. An external IFPA examiner verifies them.

I already hold an A&P qualification, do I need to re-take this qualification?

If your qualification is Level 3 or above and you are using your qualification or it has been obtained in the last 3 years, then it is possible to apply for the A&P element of the course to be bypassed. However, a copy of your certificate must be emailed to The Well School for approval.

What format is the course taught in?

The course is packed with information, like a traditional course, but with lots of live lessons in our virtual classroom and content available online or in PDF format for printing. You will have interactive lessons with your fellow students and, when needed, private sessions with your tutor.

The course workbooks are available to download, and you can e-mail your case study work to your tutor. We also have a Facebook group for interaction between students so that we don’t feel like we are learning alone; please come and find us. The details will be in your welcome email.
