Professional Aromatherapy Diploma – Upgrade Course
Are you a qualified aromatherapist looking to enhance your aromatherapy practice with more product-formulating knowledge and experience? Our upgrade course will help give another dimension to your aromatherapy practice as you learn to make balms, lotions, creams, spritzers, salt products, bars and gels. These are skills to make bespoke products for existing clients or to open your own ‘blending bar’ to offer bespoke blending services.
The IFPA believe that education is key to the future and the credibility of this remarkable therapy. Students who embark on an IFPA-accredited course can be confident that they are studying a course that goes beyond the National Training Standards. This recognised qualification will allow you to seek employment within healthcare organisations, recognition with private health insurance companies and apply for full membership with the IFPA to enjoy their benefits.
If you do not meet the IFPA standard for membership or would like to add to your existing aromatherapy knowledge, The Well School would welcome you to undertake our upgrade course.
You will join our student community as all our diploma students, have access to our weekly lessons, and engage in all the teaching, homework and case study work to ensure that you fill gaps, increase your knowledge, and enjoy your study experience while at our school.
Case studies will be treated via product formulation and aromatherapeutic formulations in your massage/reflexology practice (if you hold these qualifications already) using our client consultation forms. This is an ideal way to learn about the safe blending of essential oils, carrier oils and hydrolats for their therapeutic properties and to use these beautiful oils effectively.
What this course is not….. we are here to enhance aromatherapists’ skills to support an individual’s well-being and provide therapy through aromatherapeutic remedies and formulations. This is a course for the aromatherapist. This course will not meet the needs of those who want to release a cosmetic product range and sell ‘off the shelf’ products.
The Aromatherapy Professional Diploma Upgrade Course is taught to high IFPA standards.
UPGRADE
We offer an upgrade course for those with an existing aromatherapy qualification, the suitability of which will depend on your knowledge level.
Aromatherapy Level 3 (ITEC / FHT or similar) – Upgrade course, includes three modules (two aromatherapy modules, one formulating module) over 9 – 12 months.
THE COURSE SYLLABUS
The Aromatherapy Professional Diploma Course is taught to IFPA standards and will include parts of the syllabus below where your learning needs to be filled.
- The history and philosophy of Aromatherapy
- The study of over 80 individual essential oils, additional carrier oils, hydrolats and formulation bases
- Methods of production; the necessity for quality in essential oils, carriers & hydrolats
- Safe use, administration & blending of essential oils
- Aroma-chemistry, the components of essential oils and their synergy
- The benefits & therapeutic properties of essential oils for the mind and body
- The philosophy of holistic treatments & complementary therapy
- Contraindications and cautions for safe massage practice
- Client care – confidentiality, communicating effectively appropriately and client record taking
- Professional conduct, health & safety in the workplace
- Research skills and professional self-development
- Learn to formulate a whole range of aromatherapy products
- Join us for an optional blending weekend in our school home
Students must complete all homework, case studies, and assessments and have completed the previous module before embarking on the next. Your case studies will use your knowledge of blending and working with your clients with lotions, creams, gels and other uses of organic essential oils. Students must complete all modules to take the final theory and practical examinations.
Our courses are run in line with IFPA Guidelines & Regulations. The Well School runs an methode that requires documented home case study practical sessions, assessments, revision, assignments & research. We have connected with essential oil, uniform, and massage couch companies that offer our students discounts on organic essential oils, carriers, bases, hydrolats and products.
A payment plan is available to you, with a deposit payment of £250 and the remainder paid in monthly instalments.
Aromatherapy Diploma Examination Day.
Please book your exam near the end of your course when you know you will be prepared and ready to finish your studies. When we are confident that you are ready, you will sit your exams.
There are three examinations for this qualification:
- Essential Oils Therapy Examination Paper – 2.5 hours
- Practical Assessment – 2 hours (includes a sampling of 5 aromatherapeutic remedies, interview and review of coursework)
An exam fee of £80 will be paid when you book your exam date. We can discuss exam options with you for those students travelling from abroad on a student visa to study with us.
Cooling off Period
Following the ‘Distance Selling Regulation 2000’, you are entitled to a 7-day cooling off period, which enables you to receive your full deposit or fee should you need to cancel your booking. Any cancellation within this period must be in writing via email and within seven days of booking the course. If a booking is cancelled after the 7-day cooling off period or we do not receive written confirmation, all deposits will be lost as fees are non-refundable and non-transferable.
The Qualification
On completion, you can join the IFPA as a full member and join the thriving UK and international community.
